![]() Topic: My Web sitePosted: 2010 Feb 17 at 12:12 |

OK i have no experience of making a website, yes a a paid professional would do a brilliant job but I don't have that sort of money.
I registered a domain name and attached that to a free host ..google sites so my site has cost £7.00 for two years. Of course you are limited to templates that are basic and there is only so much you can do even if you were web designer of the year with the tools , intelligence (or lack of) and funds I possess. I have stumbled through lashing found bits of information and attempting to make something that is at least a presence on the web.. My target was and is realistic with my funds and ability to make a site that my low to middle end customers could navigate easily and get information about my services... i am on the way to achieving this ..i think any constructive criticism would be welcome but remember 1. I aint too bright when it comes to web design 2. I have no more funds 3. I tried lighter templates from the stock ones and they looked worse. 4 I Don't have at present better higher quality pictures (but i am working on that) 5 i am going to write a Biography page with a picture of me at some point 6 I will add pdf of my karaoke book and a dedicated karaoke page. 7 i may add a active feedback page if i can figure out how to do that 8 there is a known bug with large fonts not displaying properly and sometimes the text looked crushed on top of each other apparently this is called "leading" in typgraphy terms but that is down to the templates not me . My grammar and spelling are quite bad so any help there would be great overall i am fairly pleased with the site so far it is an evolving beast so bearing in mind all that what do you think so far.... http://www.robstar.co.uk Hides to cover of shouts of RUBBISH! lol |

Dont underestimate yourself its only mildly crap
![]() Seriously you have there about the best your going to get with the tools . Its clear and readable and shows forethought and a lot of work . I would run your text through a spell checker as some of it is a bit iffy in places . Dont go radically changing it as it looks good as it is . Nice job , well done ![]() |

<hides under a table> Having spoken to you and read several posts of yours on various boards, I have a lot of respect for the amount of effort and understanding you put into you business. However, I don't feel that your natural warmth and charm comes across too well in your text. I would avoid the phrase "all round" you are professional in both karaoke and disco, with a passion rarely equalled, and this comes across in the several online communities you partake in!
Personally I would change the text font so that is more consistant throughout the site.
Also your personal pronouns appear to be a little over the place and doesn't allow for an easy read. "Please enjoy browsing my site and don't hesitate in emailing Rob direct".
I also have a personal "bugbear" and about DJ's commenting on other DJ's and their "poor appearance, time keeping, reliabily etc". Sell yourselves on your own merits and in doing it will keep your site friendly and upbeat. I think you are also a member of "dj associates", to someone who is uniformed about the industry it already sounds good to have a membership to something and if anyone researches it they will find it's something worth bragging about.
On the plus sides, the site is very easy to maneuver around and the information is clear.

brilliant feed back ! Thank you for this a fresh set of eyes really do see things I have missed.
I will address all of your points within the next week I have already sorted some of the points but the hardest of all for me is putting across warmth , charm and passion on a website and still seem professional. I hopefully manage that face to face with clients and at my gigs but getting that down on a page is very hard indeed! I am to be honest fairly relieved as the comment have not been as harsh as I thought they may be! Thanks for all the constructive and helpful points. |

Just had a quick looksie and it seems a lot better than when I last looked at it. Keep up the good work.
"This is why I offer a FREE no obligation consultation ... I am friendly and flexible so please feel free to contact me."
I love this bit, I've never seen a company offer this as well as you have. My website doesn't even mention meeting the clients (though i will if they offer me a pint
