What is the respected opinion on drunks singing at karaoke?
Actually, this depends on the KJ, and the venue in question. We work in an environment where drunks are par for the course, and of course karaoke is perceived by the media to be at the lower end of the entertainment market. If we wish our chosen field to continue to be viewed in an unfavourable light, then by all means, allow drunks to stagger all around the stage, making obscene remarks, and dropping the equipment.
If however, you would like too see karaoke portrayed in the media as a first class form of entertainment, then I would suggest only allowing sober or tipsy people onto the stage.....falling down drunk, in my opinion is not an option.
There is another aspect to consider of course, and this is Public Liability. If you have a drunk that comes onto your stage, falls into your equipment, and injures themselves, they can sue YOU, and I have known it to happen where the KJ not only had to pay out for repairs to his equipment, but also over £3,000 in compensation, to an idiot that should never have been allowed up in the first place.
