Karaoke Competition tips and advice
Do a song that is known but not overdone in competitionsNever do a song that you don't know well, if you don't have to follow the words all the time and if you are confident it will aid your performance
Don't stand still staring at the screen, move about, show some emotion, if the song is fast dance!
Also move during performance but dont try and sign-language the whole song line for line!!
If you don't look at the TV screen at all some people will think your a pro and could go against you
Dont over sing the song you're doing
If it is your regular pub, learn a new song that you don't normally sing and go to another Karaoke to practise it
Pick a song that suits your voice (its no good doing a rock song if you sound like an opera singer)
Get all your mates to cheer when you've finished.
Always remember that it's YOUR Vocal ability that counts and that you DO NOT have to sound like Madonna or Phil Collins (unless of course it's a sound-a-like comp).
Your attire and dress sense can be used to your advantage. If you are singing a Frank Sinatra song, get a tuxedo, if it's Axl Rose...a kilt! It all makes an impression on the judges!
Involve the audience throughout your performance and feedback from them... and try to create an atmosphere second to none.
Don't try to sweet-talk the judges, and don't get any of your friends to do so either!
Stay sober!
If needs be when singing, fool about... wear a silly wig or use a prop such as a blow up sheep or mime to a guitar in your song if you want to leave a lasting impression.
