What's a phono/scart/coaxial lead?

Leads and connectors: Digital Coaxial lead, if you use digital audio equipment - such as a DVD-Video player, digital surround sound amp, CD Recorder, Minidisc recorder, digital radio, etc, there are two ways of connecting your equipment together.

Coaxial (or electrical) connectors are often regarded as superior in terms of performance, but not all digital equipment features such inputs and outputs.

RF Coaxial. The Radio Frequency (RF) Coaxial cable is the standard way of linking an aerial to a TV or Karaoke player. If this is the only way of connecting your karaoke player to your TV, you will have to tune a spare channel on your set in order to see the video input.

Phono (or RCA) This is the standard type of cable for interconnecting most domestic audio and video equipment to an amplifier or HI-FI system. Many products usually come supplied with freebie phono leads - but it is widely accepted that upgrading to better inter-connect leads can help.

Scart leads. Scart plugs and sockets (also known as 'peritel' or 'euro' connectors) feature 21-pins and are a quick and easy way of connecting DVD players, VCR's, Karaoke Players, Satellite receivers, etc to your TV set and to each other. They carry audio and video signals and mean that you don't have to tune in say, a new TV, to a spare channel - just plug 'n' play!
PS. SCART is an acronym for Syndicat des Constructeurs d'Appareils Radio Récepteurs et Téléviseurs - I bet you're glad we told you now!

Blimey! Get your head around that!
