The Bader UK Karaoke Challenge

Karaoke Info is pleased to promote this worthwhile charity event in aid of The Douglas Bader Foundation.

15 finalists will take part in The Grand Final to be held in Fes - Morocco on December 4th - 7th.

The Bader UK Karaoke Challenge is really hotting up with House Finals taking place all over the place. There are still a few venues doing heats so please contact Roy ukkaraokeking@yahoo.co.uk to see if there is a venue near you.. The idea about the competition is to make it fun and to raise much needed cash for The Douglas Bader Foundation. Check out the The Bader UK Karaoke Challenge room for latest details.

The total raised so far is over £7,000 :-)

The rules of the Competition are as follows:

The way the winners from each heat are picked are as follows.

There are 2 judging methods. The first way is the audience choice. This is how the money is raised, it is very straight forward £1 equals 1 vote. So the singer that raises the most money go through to the next round.

The second method is the best singer based on ability, who will be chosen by a judge.

This system will apply up to the semi final.

Each House Final will produce 4 winners, 2 that are chosen by audience and 2 by the judge.

Then the regional/quarter final where we break the 60 venues down to 20. Each venue will have 12 singers where 2 will chosen. Creating 40 semi finalists

The 15 finalist will then be selected from the singers that attend the semi-final in Central London.

New Feature!

This month we bring you a new feature in our newsletter, a monthly satirical look at the Karaoke World through the rather strange mind of Andy Nicklin!

Andy Nutter and The Chamber Pot of Secrets

Chapter One - The Sign

It was a warm summer evening in Privot Drive, the birds were singing, hardly a leaf was moving on the trees, the sound of children playing with spray cans down at the local park was barely audible - just as well really, 'cos lying behind a hedge, with a microphone held firmly in his hand was a slightly rotund fellow snoring softly - punctuated occasionally with a slight murmuring… "We…snore…are…snore…the…snore…cheeky…snuffle…girls…"

Why was he lying behind that hedge?
Why did no one complain about the kids with the spray cans?

Why?

Our story really begins some hours earlier - actually quite a few hours earlier to be fair - at a place known to many as simply London Village…a small town in the south of England, a bit to the left of the sea, but not that much...well, far enough that you can't walk to the beach…unless you drove to Southend, and parked up within walking distance of the beach - or caught the train perhaps…

There were many people in the village public house that fateful night - known to many as simply "The Hole" - the kindly, welcoming landlord Mister Spence was particularly generous on this occasion as, being keen on the beautiful sound of the human voice, allowed a tribe of entertainers from places far a field, and some actually came from fields too, to sing to his regulars.

The entertainers had bizarre names - possibly made up, some might say - Chow, Muvver Cockney, ukkaroakeking…

And the mysterious Timbo X.

The leader of the tribe - Benzo The Eighth, seemed to hold some power over the others, as he would call them by name, and hand them the microphone - which meant that they were allowed…to sing.

And how they sang - locals would cover their ears in disbelief that such sonic perfection could be performed by so few - at least that's what I think they were doing it for…

Ahh, at this stage of the proceedings, I should introduce myself as AndyN - an observational observer, and like my namesake Samuel Pepys, I chronicle the observations I make - a bit like a diary, but without the Bank Holidays, and National Don't Pick Your Nose In Traffic Day type stuff…and the Centigrade to Fahrenheit conversions…and an out of date tube map…

As Benzo called out each name in turn, and as the sun slowly drifted down below the horizon, nobody seemed to notice that the mysterious Timbo X was behaving…in a peculiar manner…except that is…me…

There could have been a thousand and one explanations for his behaviour - perhaps it was normal, perhaps he was "not himself" - nevertheless my suspicions were roused enough to investigate - so I did…

Was it too late, had He Who Should Not Be Ashamed come back, in a guise that fooled everybody, was the day of reckoning approaching faster than a fast thing being thrown extremely fast?

All of a sudden, suddenly everything seemed to suddenly move in slow motion - the voice of Benzo the Eighth became distant and deep - "Next Up - Timbo giving us a little bit of the…"

I was distracted, like someone had just distracted me, and I felt a wave of nausea coming across me like a big wave in the sea, in the middle of winter…what could it mean - my scar was hurting now, hurting in such a way that it hadn't hurt before; was it a sign? A sign the He Who Should Not Be Ashamed had returned…or had I just fallen off my chair?

Coming up next month - Chapter Two - Sing, Sing, Sing

Stay tuned :-)

Don't just sit there, visit www.karaokeinfo.co.uk today and be part of the action!
