What Does VCD Stand For?
It stands for Video CD it's predessor to DVD and was created by Sony and Phillips. It never caught on anywhere other than North Asia as a format for watching movies, but did catch on as a format for karaoke songs that have a video as a background.These backgroud videos can be anything from a video of the orignal artists (the orginal artist brand) to soft-pornography (the playboy brand). The quality of the picture isn't that great compared with DVD, it's nearest comparison is with VHS video. That said picture quality isn't the biggest factor when talking about karaoke and in short VCD is a good karaoke format.
